Frequently asked questions

What are Steam currency rates and where do they come from?

Steam stores the price of every Community Market item separately in each currency. We compare the same items across currencies to derive the real rate Steam uses to convert amounts — it differs from the exchange market rate. Rates for 37 currencies refresh every 30 minutes.

How is the Steam Community Market fee calculated?

Steam withholds a fee on every Community Market sale. The Market calculator applies the same rule Steam does: the greater of 13.04% of the price and a minimum of about $0.02 per item — which is why the share is higher on cheap items. You see the sum of prices, the fee withheld and what lands on your balance; the “calculate from a target” mode picks the listing price for the amount you want.

What are Steam Wallet Codes and how does the denomination finder work?

Steam Wallet Codes are top-up cards for fixed amounts in a regional currency. The site holds denominations for 31 currencies: for the dollar these are 5, 10, 20, 25, 30, 50 and 100; for the rouble they run from 150 to 5000. The finder combines cards to reach your amount with the smallest overpayment and converts the result into any currency at the Steam rate. There is a manual mode and support for your own card prices.

Why do Steam prices differ between currencies and regions?

Valve sets regional prices and its own internal exchange rate, which updates less often than the market. The same amount therefore costs different money in different currencies. The “All Steam currencies” table shows the gap between the Steam rate and the market rate for each currency. This site does not change your account region and does not sell keys.

Which CS2 cases are in the active drop pool and what are they worth?

The “CS2 Case & TF2 Key Prices” section tracks 48 containers: CS2 cases, sticker capsules and the Mann Co. key for TF2. For each one it shows the Community Market price, the change over 24 hours, 7 and 30 days, and its share of the weekly drop. Average drop value is the sum of chance × price. Prices are captured once a day, and clicking a row opens the sales history since the item appeared on Steam.

What drops in Rust and how likely is each item?

The buttons above the CS2 case table switch the game to Rust. It lists 79 drop items — clothing, signs, boxes and weapons — with the current Community Market price and the change over 24 hours, 7 and 30 days. Facepunch publishes no official odds, so the chance is estimated from a real sample of 12,199 drops: for items that dropped only a few times the margin of error is large. Clicking a row opens the sales history. Above the table is the average drop value — the sum of chance × price across all items.

How often are rates updated, and is there a history?

Rates are recalculated twice an hour. Daily history is kept for every currency: the chart compares the Steam rate with the market rate over a week, a month, 30 or 90 days, and a year.

Is there an API for Steam currency rates?

Yes. The API returns current rates for all currencies and daily history as JSON. Access is by key — requests, response fields and code samples are covered in the documentation.

Is this an official Valve service?

No. SteamRates.cc is an independent tool not affiliated with Valve. All data comes from public Community Market prices; no Steam account is needed to use the site.
